Welding Works

Appleton Piling Ltd carry out welding works for both temporary and permanent solutions.

Temporary Welded Steel Frames

Steel and tubular members are utilised from our steel stock. On site, our welders fabricate the temporary welded steel frames using the scheme drawings with reference to our temporary works design. The temporary welded steel frames are installed to prop sheet pile cofferdams and retaining walls to allow excavation and construction of the permanent works.

Permanent Works Welding

We have carried out several steel intensive basement structures and contracts where sheet piles, box piles and tubular piles have required extending or we have installed permanent steel capping to the sheet piles.

We have used The Steel Construction Institute publication SCI P275 Steel Intensive Basements to develop several internal systems to construct watertight steel intensive basements. Our onsite welders utilise non-structural sealing welding techniques to the seal the exposed sheet pile clutches and to provide a profile plate water bar at the sheet pile, basement slab interface.

As part of the permanent works design we can also offer the installation of shear studs welded to the face of the sheet piles.

Our permanent works design and construction details ensure watertight construction for which we are able to offer an insurance backed warranty.

All welding works are carried out to specific Welding Procedures with associated Welder Qualifications, Acceptance Criteria and Testing Regimes.

In order to ensure the welding works meet the specification, we employ onsite non-destructive Magnetic Particle Inspection testing carried out by an independent accredited testing company.
